1. Who can use Vitality Bone™ products?

Our products are designed for oral surgeons, periodontists, and implantologists.

2. What is the source of your particulate allograft?

Vitality Bone™ has partnered with an established American tissue bank with more than 30 years of experience.

3. How is Vitality Bone™ donor tissue processed?

Vitality Bone™ is terminally sterilized using validated gamma irradiation. Recovery and screening is performed according to FDA guidelines.

Vitality Bone™ is thoroughly tested for:

Antibody to Human Immunode ciency Virus 1 & 2 (anti-HIV 1 & 2)
Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HbsAg)
Hepatitis B Core IgC/IgM Antibody (HbcAb)
Antibody to Hepatitis C (anti-HCV)
Rapid Plasma Reagin or Serologic Test for Syphilis (STS by RPR)
Human Immuno Deficiency Virus DNA using Polymerase Chain Reaction (HIV PCR DNA)

All tissue is processed in certified ISO Class 1000 and Class 100 clean rooms. Pre-processing and post-processing quality assurance and quality control reviews are performed on all donated tissues. Each donor is approved by the tissue bank’s Medical Director to ensure compliance with donor acceptance criteria prior to release.

4. Where is your donor tissue processed?

All tissue is recovered and processed in the United States.

5. Are you AATB (American Association of Tissue Banks) and U.S.FDA (Food and Drug Administration) certified?

Yes, Vitality Bone™ Particulate Allograft is produced by an AATB accredited tissue bank. By accepting AATB accreditation, tissue banks agree to comply with on-site inspections of processing facilities, annual audits, and other various AATB-prescribed safety regulations. Policies and procedures for donor tracking, documentation, tissue processing, allograft packaging, and distribution activities are designed and executed in compliance with current FDA regulations.

6. What is the difference between cortical and cancellous bone? Why mix them?

Due to its structural porosity, cancellous bone graft allows for a high concentration of osteoblasts and osteocytes, resulting in superior osteogenic potential. Additionally, its large trabecular surface area encourages vascularization and incorporation at the recipient site. Cortical bone particles provide structure and rigidity, which is particularly important for procedures involving horizontal and vertical augmentation of the alveolar ridge. Mixing cortical and cancellous bone particles imbues Vitality Bone™ Particulate Allograft with the characteristics of both materials.

7. What are the benefits of mineralized bone?

Mineralized freeze died bone allograft (FDBA) has several characteristics that make it an ideal scaffold for hard tissue engineering, including biocompatibility, biodegradability, and mechanical properties. FDBA provides a sturdy foundation for bone growth that does not inhibit the function nor migration of cells. It has an interconnected pore structure and high porosity, providing a natural scaffold architecture and site for stem cells to differentiate into osteoblasts, encouraging new bone growth.

8. What is the particle size of Vitality Bone™ Particulate Allograft? What are the benefits of that particular particle size?

Vitality Bone™ Particulate Allograft has a particle size of 500-1000 microns. Compared with smaller particles, larger particles possess greater mechanical resistance, reducing the risk of premature chemical dissolution and improving space-maintaining capability. Allograft bone substitutes must be retained during bone formation in order to support osteoblast function. In instances where bone substitutes are not successfully retained, there is an elevated risk of defective, insufficient bone formation. Conversely, smaller particles possess greater shapeability and more rapid dissolution, reducing the overall time needed for bone formation. The particle size for our particulate allograft was strategically selected to maximize the quality of bone formation while maintaining a turnover period of approximately 4 months.

9. What are the clinical applications of particulate allograft?

Particulate allograft may be suitable for a variety of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including—but not limited to—alveolar ridge augmentation, sinus augmentation, extraction socket grafting, grafting periodontal bony defects, grafting exposed implant threads, tunnel bone grafting, maxillofacial bony defects, grafting bone regeneration procedures.

10. When is particulate allograft a better option compared with other bone graft materials?

The indications for particulate allograft may vary case by case. In general, particulate allograft is most suitable for smaller bone grafting procedures that require greater shapeability of graft material. It may also be used for patients who will benefit from a shorter treatment timeline compared to patients receiving xenograft particulate. However, the decision to utilize particulate allograft should always be at the discretion of a licensed clinician(s).

11. When should I avoid using particulate allograft?

Particulate allograft should never be used if there is an active infection in the recipient site. It is also not recommended in cases where there is a large amount of granulation tissue or a large periapical lesion present. Clinicians must also be sensitive to the needs of patients who are opposed to or otherwise uncomfortable with the use of allograft tissue.

12. Why do I need to enter my NPI number?

Allograft particulate is considered a restricted product that may only be sold to licensed clinicians. Your NPI number will be validated to ensure that Vitality Bone™ Particulate Allograft is strictly used for clinical purposes.

13. What is the return policy?

Customers may return all unused, unopened boxes of Vitality Bone within 30 days of original purchase. Boxes must be in their original condition and free of any external damage.

In the event that a product is found to be defective, please notify our main office by calling 202-331-3061. A pre-paid return label will be issued via email within 24 hours.
